The Rookie Guide To Configure A Weekly Google Analytics Report Email

Setting up a recurring Google Analytics report email is a very basic task. And if you have clicked the above title, then I think it's safe to assume you are probably a newbie to Google Analytics. Welcome, fellow learner!

So when building up a new website, the first thing I want to know is how many people are actually visiting, right? Exciting...except that initially you find out that the number is a flatline at 0, so yeah, we actually have to do some work to get visitors...but that's a topic for another day.

If you are anywhere nearly as lazy as me, and I hope you are not, then you want to regularly receive a report of what's been happening on your page in terms of traffic. (By the way, I am not *that* lazy, but if I can automate something, why not?)

Execute these 4 simple steps to configure a scheduled email right to your inbox every week

Step 1: Choose the report you want to receive

The "Audience Overview" is a good start if you have not defined your own custom reports.

Step 2: Click the share button above the report in the top right corner of the screen.

Don't ask me why they labeled the button where I can schedule recurring emails "Share". Maybe that's just me.

Step 3: Configure the scheduled email to your liking

Most importantly, fill in your email address, the type of attachment you want to receive and the frequency. Under advanced options you can schedule to receive these emails for a maximum of one year.

Last but not least, you have to write a message to yourself. Because without explaining the email to yourself, you will probably not understand what pops up in your inbox. So Google made this message mandatory. As you can see below it's still blank in my screenshot. I forgot to fill it and now I'm too lazy to go back and redo the screenshot just so that it is filled with something meaningless.

Still, I advice you to be nice to yourself and send something friendly. Or motivating. Or useful, maybe a reminder that after 12 months you have to reschedule these emails.

Step 4: Click the "Send" button.

Yep, don't forget this step.

And...that's it. You should now receive the report as per your configuration.

Congrats! You may now call yourself a nerd. Or whatever online marketers are called.
